The City of Black Diamond and the Black Diamond Police Department are committed to continuing efforts of public education when it comes to the activity of Lake Sawyer and Public Safety.

Contrary to recent public comment, there is no intention to ban any watersports on Lake Sawyer as a result of this survey.

Active users of Lake Sawyer are reminded of boating rules on the lake:

  • The speed limit on Lake Sawyer is 5 miles per hour, except during Fast Hours
    • Fast Hours - Vessels may exceed the posted speed limit of 5 mph with a maximum of 36 mph as follows:
    • Fast Hours - Monday through Friday are 2pm-7pm (except on holidays)
    • Fast Hours - Saturday, Sunday and Holidays are 11am-3pm

  • Stand Up Paddle Board users are reminded that SUPs are vessels, and you are required to have a wearable PDF onboard and it must be accessible. Children 12 and under are required to wear a PDF when on a SUP. Additionally, SUP users are required to have a sounding device with you, as with any manually propelled vessel.

  • Washington State Law requires boaters to obtain a Washington State Boater Education Card when operating motorboats with 15 or more horsepower including personal watercraft and any motorized watercraft. You can obtain a Boater’s Card online at www.parks.wa.gov/boating

Thank you for your community engagement and making Lake Sawyer a safe place to recreate.
